The Compact Utility Bag was developed for the everyday items that are easily left loose in a backpack. It is designed to carry a charger, cables, an adapter, a computer mouse and other small electronic accessories without taking up unnecessary space. The compact dimensions also make it suitable for cosmetics, personal items or other small essentials.
The size was refined through everyday use. Compared with the larger Utility Bag, this version fits more easily inside a backpack while still offering enough depth for the items it is designed to carry. Built with a gusseted construction, the bag has a practical depth while keeping a clean and compact shape. The flap is secured with solid brass stud fasteners. Made one at a time in the Studio van de Laar workshop.

The current version is made from 2–2.5 mm Radermecker Niagara shoulder leather.
Niagara is a full-grain, vegetable-tanned saddlery leather. It is left unpressed and uncorrected, allowing the natural character of the hide to remain visible.
The leather is hand-cut and finished with a traditional hand saddle stitch. Fil Au Chinois linen thread is waxed by hand with beeswax before stitching.
Solid brass stud fasteners are used as standard.

Natural variations in grain, colour and surface are part of the character of the hide and make each piece unique. With use, the Niagara leather will develop its own depth and patina.

The brown piece shown in the current photographs is an earlier prototype made from Metropolitan Leather Lamport shoulder leather. Metropolitan Leather is no longer used for this design. New Compact Utility Bags are made exclusively from Radermecker Niagara leather.
